If you have a business, could you describe it and how you started it?
Tanisha Mackin: I entered the realm of business following a devastating incident: the loss of my husband, my soulmate, in a tragic mass shooting during our first wedding anniversary celebration in Buffalo, NY, in 2010. Devastated and feeling utterly lost, I embarked on a healing path by traveling with our two children, seeking solace in exploring new places and experiences. This journey helped me rediscover a sense of purpose and healing.
With a background in writing and a passion for travel, I realized the power of combining these two elements to assist others in their own healing process. This insight motivated the establishment of my business—a platform where I provide detailed travel guides and offer perspectives on food and lifestyle experiences. Through this endeavor I not only progress on my own path of healing but also establish connections with individuals who discover solace, inspiration, and comfort in exploring the world through the experiences I share.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in your field, and how have you overcome them?
Tanisha Mackin: One of the significant challenges I face in my field revolves around crafting engaging social media content for my travel brand. Transitioning from merely posting to consistently producing high- quality content that captivates audiences and encourages their return has been demanding.
The task of generating fresh and creative ideas is both daunting and stimulating. Despite the challenges, I find immense enjoyment in this process. Witnessing people appreciate and learn from my content is incredibly rewarding. While the journey to enhance my content creation skills is ongoing, I am confident that continuous learning and growth will enable me to overcome these challenges successfully.

Additionally, the third season of my travel show premiered in August, marking another significant accomplishment. I prioritize my well-being by taking regular mental health days which I disconnect entirely from work pressures. Participating in activities such as a massage, facial, manicure-pedicure, or even just staying home to unwind enables me to rejuvenate mentally and physically. It's crucial not to sacrifice your health for your business; these moments of self-care help me regain focus and balance. To other busy women, my advice is to carve out dedicated time for self-care regularly. Whether it's a short break during the day or a whole day off, investing in your well-being is an investment in your overall productivity and happiness. Remember, taking care of yourself is not a luxury but a necessity.

This year alone, I have successfully launched four guides and am presently engrossed in developing my fifth city-focused edition.
Additionally, I am serving as the executive producer of my own travel show, which recently premiered its third season in August. To mark this significant milestone, we are offering our viewers an exciting opportunity to win a passport at the end of this season.
In the coming months, my plans involve extensive travel, including a much-anticipated trip to Bali – my inaugural long-haul destination that required overcoming some initial nerves. I look forward to establishing my presence as a notable voice in the travel industry.
