Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
Gwendolyn Jackson: I am an author and the founder of Roy L Jackson Community Outreach Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. Despite my battle with Stage IV Cancer, which has spread to my bones after an initial diagnosis of Cervical Cancer, I remain resilient. In addition to my role as a cancer survivor, I am a proud mother of two, a loving grandmom, and an entrepreneur with my wine venture.

Could you please share your personal story with us?
Gwendolyn Jackson: Gwendolyn Jackson, a courageous fighter, was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer that spread to her bones, leading to Stage IV cancer. She has chosen to define her journey through her non- profit organization, the "Roy L Jackson Community Outreach Center." This center, named in honor of her late father, who lost his battle with lung cancer, has become a beacon of hope in Houston. Gwendolyn and her committed team offer vital community support by distributing food and medical supplies. Also, arranging backpack giveaways and providing furniture to those in need. Her unwavering spirit in the face of adversity is an inspiration to all.
In January, Gwendolyn Jackson and Lindsay Gullatte-Lee will unite in Houston to host the "I Am Not My Diagnosis" health fair/Pop Up Shop, casting a light on cervical cancer awareness during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Together, they unite as a powerful force, creating a substantial impact that extends well beyond their local communities.

How would you describe your life prior to the incident?
Gwendolyn Jackson: Before the incident, my life brimmed with activity, and I remained highly engaged in the community. I devoted considerable time to advocate for my dad as his caregiver. I never imagined facing my own battle with cancer.

In what ways has this experience impacted your life?
Gwendolyn Jackson: This experience has pushed me to become more dedicated. I am now committed to spreading awareness and continuing to help my community as well as others. I refuse to let cancer stop me, and I am determined to live my life to the fullest despite the challenges.

How did you manage to overcome the challenges you faced during this difficult time?
Gwendolyn Jackson: I managed to overcome the challenges I faced during this difficult time through the unwavering support of my family. My support system is incredible, and their role in my life is priceless.The determination to be there for my grandchildren fueled my resolve to persevere. The encouragement from them, combined with the motivation from my daughter and son, empowered me to navigate this journey with unwavering strength and resilience.

What was the most significant obstacle you encountered, and how did you overcome it?
Gwendolyn Jackson: The most significant obstacle I encountered was losing my dad. Despite the immense grief, I channeled my pain into purpose and started my nonprofit in honor of him. Through this initiative, I found the strength to overcome my loss and turn it into a force for positive change in my community.

Can you describe your reaction to these challenges and the steps you took to overcome them?
Gwendolyn Jackson: In the face of these challenges, my initial reaction was to question God. I frequently wondered, "Why me?" Yet, I eventually understood that these struggles are assigned to the resilient; challenges are bestowed upon us because we have the strength to endure them. Through this understanding, I placed my complete trust in God. This faith became my foundation, guiding me to overcome these challenges with resilience and determination.

Who has been a source of inspiration in your life, and what qualities do they possess that inspire you?
Gwendolyn Jackson: Every day, I draw inspiration from the unwavering love, resilience, and ability to find joy in challenges demonstrated by my children and grandchildren. Furthermore, the remarkable women I've encountered through my foundation emphasize the strength of community and influence of mutual support. Their courage and determination to overcome obstacles serve as a constant motivation, propelling me forward. My personal determination drives my path. Affirming that persistence empowers me to conquer any challenge in my way.

Gwendolyn Jackson: "Never give up" would be the advice I'd give myself.

What do you believe are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?
Gwendolyn Jackson: The most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur include strength, hard work, consistency, and compassion. Entrepreneurs need the strength to face challenges, the determination to work hard, the consistency to maintain their efforts, and the compassion to understand and connect with others. Additionally, being dependable, loyal, and steady are crucial traits that contribute to their success.

What are your future goals and aspirations?
Gwendolyn Jackson: My future goal is to continue thriving through my foundation and being able to help others.

What advice would you offer to someone who is interested in pursuing entrepreneurship?
Gwendolyn Jackson: Keep pushing, stay consistent, stay focused, and concentrate on one goal at a time. Persistence and dedication are key in the entrepreneurial journey.
