ANGELICA G MILLER: Several years ago, I had this nagging feeling that I was supposed to be doing more with my life. I mean more than just my 9 to 5 job. It was a feeling so real that there were some days I cried out of frustration to God and to my best friends because I wasn't sure what it was I was supposed to do.
For years I heard people say use your gifts to create a business you love. Well, I thought it was cooking, sewing, jewelry making, and so on. It turned out that those were the hobbies that I loved but not the GIFT I was to use to help women in business like you.
Are you having that same nagging feeling right now? That you should or need to be doing something that will serve a better purpose not only in your life but in other people's lives?
Are you feeling grateful for your current job or business, but have this sinking feeling that there’s so much more to it?
ANGELICA G MILLER: Believe me, I understand!
So what are you supposed to do about it? Better yet, how can you start going down the path to finding out and working towards your new future reality?
I’m here to first tell you it’s not going to be a quick fix for most of you. There might be a few people that figure it out within hours or weeks. I’m very happy for them and wish it was the same for me. But as I look around and have intimate conversations with my friends, my network, and my clients I serve, that is not the case for a larger footprint.
ANGELICA G MILLER: I remember the exact moment I decided to take charge of what I wanted to do. My son was in eighth grade, and I was sitting outside of his school waiting for him to come out. I started thinking about him going to high school in the fall and off to college soon after.
At that exact moment, I heard this question aloud in my head. WHAT’S YOUR NEXT?
That simple question caused me to reflect for a long time! I’m not talking years but weeks.
I didn’t want to be the mom who waited until after their children were done with school and found myself just starting to work on my goals and figuring out my purpose to serve. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it was not for me. I did not want to feel lost once he was out of the house. As moms, we know our lives revolve around our kids 24/7, and we would do it all over again if we had too.
I could not let another four years go by without a plan to make sure when he graduated high school, I was well into creating my business to serve women in the coaching, consulting and service-based industries by showing them how to strategize their goals, schedule, and processes like they have their very own Online Business Manager and Executive Assistant.
I felt like I had to come up with a plan fast. Remember, I was already frustrated knowing there was something great in me that wanted
ANGELICA G MILLER: to come out to serve the world. I say the world because I was tired of thinking small and staying in my safe place.
Do you have a safe place that you go to every single day, 365 days a year? There’s nothing wrong with having a safe place. The problem is when we don’t come out and let life happen and share our gift.
My safe place was built to protect me from some childhood issues. That’s another story for this community.
Now be mindful that this is your journey, not anyone else's. During this time, you’re not taking into account anyone's opinion of you, and what they want you to do. You need to take some time to get to know yourself again and listen to the quiet voice that’s deep inside of you. This voice already knows all your wants and desires.
That quiet voice will tell you a lot when you slow the noise down in your head.
Here are some steps you should take when trying to figure out your NEXT in life. You don’t have to do these in any specific order and you don’t have to do them all. Remember this is what makes you feel good and brings clarity and peacefulness to you. No one's journey is the same and certain things may not work for you in this time of your life but could later down the road.
Wake up early in the morning and meditate for 15 to 20 minutes. Do this before anyone in your house gets up. Have your journal near you so when you’re done you can write down the things that come to you. This is not a onetime thing this should be part of your daily routine. To have more of an impact think about also meditating just before bed.
Pray if this is something you believe in. This is number one for me because I truly believe in a higher power that's in me and the world.
Take a day or a weekend away by yourself and spend the time journaling, scripting, and working on your goals.
Start a list of all the goals you want to accomplish. At this point, you’re doing a brain dump so it does not have to be perfect. The point here is to get it all out of you and onto paper. You can do this over a day or a week. Once you're done with your list give yourself a day or so before you look at it again.
ANGELICA G MILLER: Now that you have your list it’s time to go through each goal and ask these two specific questions.
Why do you want to accomplish this goal?
What do you need to make the goal happen?
I know these questions are simple but they are full of power. Especially when you have a clear direction of where you want to go. The first question will make you dig deep to determine if the goal is nice to have or if it’s something that's going to change the direction of your life.
The nice to have goals are the ones that don’t set a fire under you. To me, they’re more like bucket list items that I want to do sometime in my life. But the ones that set a fire in you will cause you to have all kinds of ideas and emotions. These are the goals you need to be working on!
The last question will help you start the process of action to move forward. These are items that must be placed on your schedule. Keep in mind you have your big goal but you must break it down into smaller do's so you will eventually reach the finish line.
These simple steps above have helped me time and time again and have also created results for the clients I work within my programs.
I hope you take some time to get to know yourself again. As women, we all go through a shift and want to change directions or make some tweaks. It happened to me and so many women I know. That’s perfectly ok! Especially when you’re trying to better yourself and the people you’re trying to serve. Make sure you’re working from your authenticity and not what someone else wants for you.
Remember, their dreams are not your dreams and your dreams are not the GIFTS they were given to serve others.
